Friday, July 11, 2014 Principal’s Weekly Message—Summer Update
Hello WECHS’ families, this is your Principal, Lisa Cummings, calling with a summer update.
Hopefully everyone is having a productive and refreshing summer. We have been busy at WECHS as we prepare for another great year!
Students participated in WakeMed Internships and a WakeMed Summer Camp.
Ms. Hill completed an externship at WakeMed.
Arjun and Matthews competed at the H.O.S.A. National Conference in Florida.
WECHS staff presented on Metacognition and Academic Success on N. Campus at the NC New Schools Summer Institute in Concord.
Metacognition Mondays common lesson plans were completed and we are excited to share these with you on PHS Campus this year!
The HS campus became the Perry Health Sciences Campus, in honor of Jim and Becky Perry, http://www.waketech.edu/news/wake-tech-re-names-health-sciences-campus-honor-jim-and-becky-perry#.U7_-yfldWSo.
We received all new furniture in the PHS HEB Student Lounge.
Renovations have started to turn HEB 222 into a real science lab.
Ms. Lupher has joined our team to replace Ms. Drake who relocated with her husband to Virginia Beach. Ms. Lupher is coming from Sandhoke Early College.
We are excited to share that Ms. Smith has accepted a position at WCPSS Central Office. We are going to miss her dearly on N. Campus, but share her excitement in her new role. We are interviewing now for her replacement.
We will have our largest enrollment to date with 318 students. Approximately 140 students will be on the N. Campus.
Scheduling is almost complete for all students. Once Powerschools re-opens the parent portal, high school schedules will be visible. College schedules will be visible in the students’ Blackboard accounts. Please note that we will continue making adjustments throughout the summer to both high school and college schedules. Every student will receive a copy of his/her schedule on the first day of school, August 11th. The counselors will return August 4th to address any schedule concerns. 919-212-5800.
Bus routes will be posted during the first week of August. We will notify you when this information is available. Just a reminder that we will have Express Bus Routes until traditional calendar schools begin.
Speaking of buses, we have a change that is going to impact students in college courses on the six WCPSS Early Release days this year. WCPSS Transportation will run one dismissal bus this year, at approximately 11:30 am for N. Campus and 11:50 am for PHS Campus on 9/5, 10/17, 11/7, 2/13, 3/6, and 4/17. A second bus will not run at 1:50 pm on N. Campus on these six days as it has done in the past. Students are being asked to make arrangements for their own transportation those afternoons at 1:50 pm, the conclusion of their college classes. Good attendance, especially in college classes, is critical. Many WTCC instructors do not allow more than three absences. I will work with families on this issue. Please contact me with questions and concerns, email@example.com or 919-212-5803.
Please note these important dates:
August 7: New Student Camp, 8:00-2:15 All new students should attend.
August 11: First day of school for all students!
August 18: WTCC classes begin
August 21: Open House/Meet the Teacher Night, PHS Campus, 6:30 pm
August TBD: N. Campus Open House/Meet the Teacher Night, N. Campus, 6:30 pm

We look forward to seeing everyone soon. Call or email if you have questions.
As always, if you have an emergency, please call my mobile number, 919-398-3451.
Thank you and have a great weekend!
