15-16 VMCC WECHS
Welcome to WECHS
To: WECHS Classes of 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019
From: Lisa Cummings, Principal
Subject: Report Cards, Schedules and Reminders
Date: June 12, 2015
We are already busy planning for next year and hope you are keeping your bodies and brain cells active this summer! WECHS had another amazing year in 2014-2015 with 70% of our graduates earning a Wake Tech degree or diploma, five earning Certified Nursing Assistant certification, four earning Phlebotemy certification, and one earning Emergency Medical Technician certification, all of this in addition to a high school diploma within five years. The class of 2015 earned over $736,000 in scholarships and grants in addition to their ‘free’ college credit hours earned at WTCC. In their spare time, WECHS students also served countless hours of volunteer service at WakeMed! Thank you and congratulations to our students and supportive families.
WECHS is busy this summer!
Mr. Citrini will join the staff of Wake Young Men’s Leadership Academy later this summer. His replacement will join us in August pending approval from Human Resources.
Ms. Johnson will join the staff of Vernon Malone College and Career Academy next year. We are currently interviewing for her position.
Mr. Hamilton will join the staff of Rolesville High School in the fall. We will not fill his position at this time.
Ms. Sutton joined the staff of SE Raleigh High School last March. We will begin interviewing for her replacement soon.
Mr. Eaton and HOSA students are headed to Anaheim, CA at the end of June to compete at the national level, http://www.hosa.org/
Later this month WECHS staff will present on Metacognition and Academic Success and attend an Innovation and Excellence recognition dinner at the Charlotte Motor Speedway at the NC New Schools Summer Institute in Concord, NC http://ncnewschools.org/
Important items of note:
N. Campus Summer Camp is Tuesday, June 16, 8:00-2:00. Transportation is not provided. This is for all students new to N. Campus this fall. A parent information session will follow. You should have received a call from N. Campus staff last week with details. Contact Dr. Reid if you missed this call, email@example.com, 919-532-5641
On the first day of school, August 11, students on both campuses will pick up a copy of their schedule at school. High school class schedules should be visible in Powerschool the week of August 1.
Complete WECHS N. Campus schedules will include both high school and college courses. College courses may be accessed through students’ WEBADVISOR accounts, https://webadvisor.waketech.edu.
N. Campus high school courses will be added to the college schedule and final, complete schedules will be provided for students during the first day of school.
N. Campus high school courses will include Honors English IV (via NCVPS) and Health Sciences Seminar (required for all students not enrolled in Honors English IV). Both courses are graded. North Campus schedules will also include academic support classes that meet once per week, Academic Assistance. These courses are designed to provide structured support to students in the areas of college English, math, and science. Student placement in Academic Assistance classes will be based on previous school performance and staff recommendations. Students may be assigned more than one Academic Assistance course per subject, based on demonstrated need. Regular attendance in Academic Assistance, and all classes, is mandatory to maintain satisfactory standing as a N. Campus student. Questions? Dr. Lisa Reid, firstname.lastname@example.org, 919-532-5641
If possible, students will benefit from the use of a personal laptop on N. Campus. WECHS and WTCC will provide resources as needed.
Any questions about WEBADVISOR should be directed to Ms. Angela M. Graham, Director, College and School Relations, Wake Early College of Health and Sciences Liaison, email@example.com, 919-747-0020
