 Program Features

Wake Early College of Health and Sciences  (WECHS), a Learn and Earn High School, is a magnet school focused on health and sciences. Students follow the College/University Prep Course of Study and may graduate with an Associates degree, should they decide to stay one additional year beyond their high school graduation.  This experience provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to advance to a four-year degree program or to enter the health science profession. Two unique features of WECHS are the partnership among the Wake County Public School System, Wake Technical Community College, and WakeMed Health & Hospitals; and the school’s location on the Health Sciences campus and North campus of Wake Tech. The school’s small size provides the most individualized environment available to Wake County students. They have the opportunity to enroll in unique high school and college classes addressing the health and sciences theme. WECHS students are known well by at least one member of the school’s faculty and staff. Additionally, students have tutorial opportunities embedded in the school day, career counseling, educational advisement, and a personal learning environment where academic growth and excellence are common goals. Students experience seamless curricula uniting high school and college level work that eases the transition from secondary to post-secondary experiences.  WECHS students have the opportunity to  graduate in five years with a high school diploma and an Associates of Arts (AA),  Associates of Sciences (AS), or Associates of Applied Sciences (AAS) degree. College credits completed while enrolled in the school are tuition-free and may be transferable to a four-year institution.

FACILITY: Wake Early College of Health and Sciences is located on the Wake Technical Community College Health Sciences campus adjacent to the Raleigh WakeMed Health and Hospitals campus and on the Wake Technical Community College North Campus.
